Installing the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client

Note: Use the Safari browser when downloading this software.ONLY Mac OS 10.9.x and newer versions are supported by the CISCO AnyConnect software.

  1. Download the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client installer for Mac.

  2. Enter theCougarNetcredentials.

  3. Click Login.

  4. Click the AnyConnectVPN link to download the software.

  5. If you get a DMG file double click the file.

  6. Double-click the AnyConnect.pkg file to start the Cisco AnyConnect Installer wizard.

  7. Click Continue.

  8. Click Agree.

  9. When the Welcome window displays, click Continue.

  10. Select your hard drive as the destination where you want to install Cisco AnyConnect and then click Continue if you receive this screen.

  11. Click Install to perform a standard installation of the software.

  12. At the prompt, enter your administrator account password for the Mac and click Install Software.

  13. When the software has finished installing, click Close.

Connecting to the UH VPN

This is for users that need to access UH secure network resources from off campus.

  1. To launch the VPN client, open your Applications folder and navigate to Cisco > Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client.

  2. Type vpn.uh.edu.

  3. Click Connect.

  4. Enter the following information and then click OK:

    • Group: UHVPN
    • Password: your COUGARNET password

      Note: Once the VPN connection is established, a message displays, informing you that you are now connected to the VPN.

Disconnect from the UH VPN

  1. Click the Cisco AnyConnect icon with a small lock.

  2. At the prompt, click Disconnect.

Note: If you disconnect from UH VPN you will be required to re-enter your password for reconnections.

Connecting to the Full UH VPN

This is for users that need to access web-based journals and databases licensed by UH Libraries.

  1. To launch the VPN client, open your Applications folder and navigate to Cisco > Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client.

  2. Type full-vpn.uh.edu.

  3. Click Connect.

  4. Enter the following information and then click OK:

    • Group: full-vpn
    • Password: your COUGARNET password

      Note: Once the VPN connection is established, a message displays, informing you that you are now connected to the VPN.

Disconnect from the Full UH VPN

  1. Click the Cisco AnyConnect icon with a small lock.

  2. At the prompt, click Disconnect.

Note: If you disconnect from the full UH VPN you will be required to re-enter your password for reconnections.

Installing the Cisco AnyConnect Essentials client for Macintosh OS 10.5 (Leopard) and connecting to SSL VPN.

  1. Make sure your system satisfies the SSL VPN operating system and browser requirements
  2. Complete the Mandatory one time self-registration
  3. Connect to the WSU SSL VPN Service. (https://sslvpn.wsu.edu)
    • Please read page, then enter your AD Username (WSU Network ID) and password and click
  4. The page will attempt to Auto-Install the Cisco AnyConnect Client Software.
  5. When prompted, enter Mac OS X credentials and click “Install Software” to continue.
  6. Once installed, the AnyConnect Client will try to auto-connect to sslvpn.wsu.edu. When it is connected you will see the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Icon on the top bar.

NOTE: If the Web Install fails and you are prompted for manual installation, click the “AnyConnect VPN” link.
This will download the .dmg file to your Downloads to manually install the software.
Once you start the install, follow through the prompts to complete your install.
**You May Need to Restart Your Mac After Manually Installing This Software For It To Work Properly**

  • Once the file downloads, start the install from your Downloads:

To Connect The Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client After Install:

  • After installation, you can find the Cisco Folder in your Applications:
  • And the Cisco AnyConnect Client in the folder:
  • When you start the Client, a VPN: Ready to connect box appears. Type the server sslvpn.wsu.edu in the box and click Connect. When it prompts for credentials, use your Network ID and Password to login. The Cisco AnyConnect VPN Icon shows up on the top bar and if you hover your mouse over it, it will say it’s connected.

Disconnecting from the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client

  • To disconnect from the AnyConnect VPN connection on a Mac OS X system:
  • Click the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client Icon in the top bar and choose “Disconnect.”

Reconnecting to the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client

  • Reconnecting:
    • Repeat the steps above by loging in to the VPN Portal at https://sslvpn.wsu.edu
  • OR go to Applications->Cisco and double-click the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client icon, make sure sslvpn.wsu.edu is in the Ready to Connect box, click Connect, and login with your Network ID and Password when prompted.

  1. Go : Macintosh HD -> Applications-> Cisco and click 'Uninstall AnyConnect'
  2. Enter Mac OS X admin password
  3. Click on Close
