Yesterday, we reported the new Office Mix tool from Microsoft. Today, Microsoft announced that they have extended that preview to the public. Office Mix offers a simple way to turn your PowerPoint slides into interactive online lessons and presentations. Office Mix tool was developed as part of the Startup Business Group inside Microsoft that has released some pretty amazing technologies. 3D Printing for Windows, Power Map (aka Project GeoFlow) and one of my favorite Windows 8.1 apps, Fresh Paint, are just a few examples.
Office Mix promises to make life much easier for teachers, or anyone else who spends much time developing and delivering PowerPoint presentations. Office Mix brings features like the ability to record inking, audio and video directly into PowerPoint so you can turn a slide deck into an interactive lesson and share it online with the press of a button.
Office Mix adds functionality to PowerPoint 2013 that allows you to record audio or video of yourself presenting, write on your slides as you speak to them, insert quizzes, polls, online videos, and more. In fact, you can even do full screen capture and record anything on your PC. Once your presentation is ready, just click “Upload,” and we will work our magic to transform your presentation into a mix. You choose when and with whom to share it.

Before we look at installing Office Mix, it is a good idea to understand the system requirements needed for this add-in. Thereafter, you caninstall and run Office Mix, as explained later onthis page.
Microsoft Office Mac Download
Here’s what you need:
- PowerPoint 2016 (orPowerPoint 2013) for Windows. At the time of writing, no compatible version of Office Mixwas available for PowerPoint versions on the Mac.
- Windows 7, 8, 10, or newer. That is obvious because PowerPoint 2013 or 2016 will not install on previous versions of Windows.
- A suitable microphone. Our PowerPoint Microphones page will help.
- A webcam if you want to record your headshot videos.

Thereafter follow these steps:
- Head to the Office Mix site, as shown in Figure 1below.
Figure 1: Get Office Mix - Click the large Get Office Mix button as shown in Figure 1 above. If you are not signed into with yourMicrosoft Account, you will be prompted now to do so. Thereafter, the setupfile will be downloaded.
- Preferably close all applications and then activate the downloaded file to go ahead with the install process.
- Once installed, the Mix tab will appear on theRibbon within PowerPoint, as shown inFigure 2, below.
Figure 2: Office Mix tab on the Ribbon - Also, the first time you launch PowerPoint after installing Mix, you will see a sample presentation open along with the MixGetting Started pane, as shown in Figure 3, below.
